Washington - Household pesticide manufacturers soon will have to squeeze more words onto their labels, in a move designed to reduce problems at landfills. Under orders by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, consumers no longer will be instructed to wrap partially used containers in newspaper and throw them in the garbage.

Instead, household pesticide manufacturers must tell consumers to contact their local solid waste agency or call a toll-free number to dispose of the products. They can provide their own toll-free number that meets EPA guidelines or use 1-800-CLEAN-UP.
