Senate OKs bill with renewable fuel.(Brief Article)

The Senate overwhelmingly approved an energy bill last month that supporters said will increase conservation and the use of renewable fuels, but which critics said doesn't go far enough. The measure, passed by an 88-11 vote, would expand the wind energy production tax credit to other renewable energy resources, including geothermal, solar, open-loop biomass and animal waste energy projects.

The credit will run for three years for biomass projects and five years for the other categories. ``Developing renewable energy sources is the only way we will meet the long-term energy needs of this country without polluting our air and water,'' said Sen.
