Officials in Sarasota County, Fla., allegedly caught two Waste Management Inc. drivers dumping used oil into the regular waste stream, and the fallout could jeopardize a $100 million contract extension the company was negotiating with the county. County investigators issued citations and fines against Waste Management, and the company fired the two drivers.
``The timing is very unfortunate,'' said Sarah Voss, a spokeswoman for Houston-based Waste Management. ``Florida is a big market for us, and we want to continue to service Sarasota.''
