Weyerhaeuser to cut 750 jobs by 2004.(News)

Byline: Jim Johnson Weyerhaeuser Co. said it plans to slash its corporate staff by about 750 jobs, or more than 25 percent, over the next two years to save tens of millions in corporate costs. And those cuts will come on top of the 200 to 300 corporate job cuts made since early this year.
Weyerhaeuser, one of the largest recycling companies in the nation, said the layoffs will take place by the end of next year. The company employs about 2,850 people at its headquarters in Federal Way. ``This is a difficult but necessary decision to reduce the cost of doing business and make us more competitive,'' said Steven R. Hill, senior vice president of human resources. Weyerhaeuser said it talked to employees this year about plans to cut costs....
