Byline: Bruce Geiselman Hazmed Inc. has recycled 3.5 million pounds of range residue from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland since March 2000. That has put about $28,000 back into the installation's operating budget, said Fred Thompson, environmental compliance manager for Hazmed, an environmental engineering and consulting company based in Lanham, Md.

Hazmed is one of many companies around the country that dispose of range residue for the military. However, Hazmed faces some unusual challenges because it deals with radioactive material, and ranges must be cleared on an almost daily basis.
