Avalon sells unit to concentrate efforts

Warren, Ohio - Avalon Holdings Corp. has reached an agreement to sell its transportation businesses to focus on its waste operations.

The June 25 agreement includes the sale of all the common stock of DartAmerica Inc. to BMC International Inc. The companies expect to close the deal in the third quarter. Avalon Holdings will incur a second-quarter charge of between $2.5 million and $3 million.

Avalon Holdings intends to focus on its remaining businesses, which includes American Waste Management and American Landfill Management Inc. Through those operations, the company provides waste management services to industrial, commercial, municipal and governmental customers.
