WMI offers Chicago site plan.(News)(Waste Management Inc.)

Byline: Jim Johnson Waste Management wants to reopen the CID landfill in southeast Chicago to municipal solid waste and is willing to give away more than half of the profits from the site in a $20 million deal in an effort to overcome local opposition and a current city ban on new disposal capacity.
While the company has won the support of one local citizens group, a much larger group wants no part of any plans to extend the life of the landfill. The site is currently accepting soils as it heads toward closure next year without an expansion. Victor Crivello, who describes himself as an environmental planner, said he once opposed plans to extend the landfill's life. Now he said he sees the value in continuing disposal in exchange for $16 million...
