Power Study: 10% would work for N.Y. power A New York state agency has concluded that the state can integrate up to 10 percent wind energy into its energy mix without impacting cost or reliability. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority released the final draft of its technical study this month.
The agency found that a 10 percent penetration level of wind energy would not require major changes in the planning, operation or reliability of the state's power system. In some cases, adding wind energy would not only reduce emissions, it would cut operating costs, according to the study, which is available at www.nyserda.org/rps/default.asp.
