Byline: Joe Truini Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is expanding its plastic recycling pilot project, a system the company thinks will revolutionize film recycling in the retail industry. The Bentonville, Ark.-based company sandwiches plastic shrink-wrap, bags, apparel bags and other plastic film between layers of cardboard.

The compacted "sandwiches'' contain 9 to 18 inches of plastic between 10 to 20 inches of cardboard on the top and bottom. The company will expand the program to another 267 stores this fall. It began the pilot project September at 326 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores.
