This may be the largest natural disaster that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the nation have faced, Administrator Stephen Johnson said in a press briefing.

"We're on the scene, taking care of water, air and land issues there,'' he said. The agency has 646 staff members in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. They're dealing with contaminated floodwater, flooded Superfund and hazardous chemical sites, damaged water and wastewater plants and leaking oil refineries.
