Air Force rebounds after storm; Miss. base suffers up to $400 million damage.

Byline: Bruce Geiselman Personnel at Keesler Air Force Base spent last week trying to clean up after suffering a direct hit from Hurricane Katrina, which sent waves of water throughout the base. The base is only a few blocks from the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and it sits on the Back Bay of Biloxi to the north.
"As a result of the hurricane, all facilities on base suffered some damage,'' Air Force Lt. Al Bosco said last week. "But we're improving every day.'' Damage ranged from flooding - as much as 6 to 8 feet in some areas - to roofs being partially ripped off. Housing areas were flooded with about 6 feet of water.
