Phil Grone believes the Department of Defense has made significant progress toward adopting cost-effective, safe and environmentally sound operating practices.
But, he concedes, more needs to be done.
The Defense Department also wants to ensure that the measures it adopts at its military installations further military readiness, said Grone, deputy undersecretary of defense for installations and the environment.
Grone made his remarks last week during a presentation at the Joint Services Environmental Management Conference in Denver.
