Byline: Bruce Geiselman U.S. greenhouse gas emissions during 2004 increased by 1.7 percent from the previous year, but Environmental Protection Agency officials said the country is making progress toward reducing emissions of some gases. The EPA unveiled its latest report April 17 on greenhouse gas emissions prepared for the United Nations Framework on Climate Change.

The EPA blamed the increase in greenhouse gas emissions on increased energy and fuel consumption taking place because of economic expansion. The burning of fossil fuels generates carbon dioxide emissions.
