Hurricane Katrina Agencies give OK to New Orleans' soil A multiagency report shows that lead levels in New Orleans' soil samples are consistent with levels prior to Hurricane Katrina. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department Environmental Quality did find elevated lead levels in some of the soil samples.
But the levels were similar to those reported in a local university study before the hurricane. The agencies are conducting further tests to determine the source of the elevated lead contamination. The report is part of the agencies' continuing post-Katrina monitoring. The test data is available at www.epa.gov/katrina/testresults. Labor Teamsters strike in New York and D.C.
