So it doesn't compute that its AA rating from a research firm specializing in environmental, social and strategic governance issues will slip to a BBB by early 2007.
"Compared to its peers, [Verizon] sits pretty well,'' said Alana Libow, an analyst with New York-based Innovest Strategic Value Advisors. "It's above average on the environmental side.''
