Byline: Jim Johnson Portland Public Schools is launching a pilot project to test the use of biodiesel fuel in a Waste Management Inc. vehicle used to collect recyclables and trash. The truck, which is used to service school sites, will use a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent conventional diesel fuel.

If the pilot project proves successful, the company plans to expand use of B20 fuel to other trucks in its fleet. "We believe this is the first time in the nation a hauler has been approached by a school district about using biodiesel,'' said Nancy Bond, the district's resource conservation specialist.
