Byline: Joe Truini The nation's largest wind power purchase has come to fruition in California while a study called for by the Minnesota legislature has determined wind could provide 25 percent of the state's electricity. Southern California Edison has signed the largest wind energy contract of any U.S.

utility, securing 1,500 megawatts of renewable energy for its customers. The Rosemead, Calif., utility, an Edison International company, will purchase the output from Alta Windpower Development LLC projects under development in California's Tehachapi region.
