San Diego Gas & Electric expects to save 200 megawatts of electricity through its smart meter program over the next five years, enough to serve 160,000 customers for a year.
FINANCIAL BENEFIT: Smart meters can be programmed to reduce electricity use during peak hours when prices rise above a programmed amount. This allows businesses and consumers to adapt their usage habits, thus saving money, by monitoring their consumption.
