Covanta: Pollution technology ready

Covanta Holding Corp. said it believes it has gained a competitive advantage with new technology that can reduce nitrogen oxide levels at waste-to-energy facilities well below regulatory limits.

The Fairfield, N.J., firm has successfully tested and has patents pending on two technologies, which are ready for full-scale commercial application. The Covanta LN technology can achieve nitrogen oxide emission levels below U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements without the use of Selective Noncatalytic Reduction systems, which most waste-to-energy facilities use. Combined with SNCR systems, the technology drops nitrogen oxide levels to about half of current regulatory limits....
