Refiners group weighs in on fuel credits.(News)

Byline: Bruce Geiselman An association representing oil refiners is supporting the Bush administration's recently finalized Renewable Fuel Standard Program that will require greater use of cleaner-burning renewable fuels. However, while expressing overall support, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association said the RFS credit trading program "must be understandable, allow unambiguous enforcement, and promote adequate flexibility for refiners and gasoline importers.'' The NPRA also advocated that national renewable mandates supersede any state-level requirements that might be adopted, unless the state requirements pass scrutiny from the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure they don't interfere with fuel production and distribution.
