Los Angeles rail yard invests $300 million Union Pacific Railroad is investing $300 million to upgrade its intermodal container facility in Los Angeles, a move the company said will create the most "environmentally modern'' rail port in North America. The site, over a several-year period, will institute a variety of new ways to handle containers coming from the nearby ports.

"The goal of the project is to improve the environmental impact of this facility while supporting the growth of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach,'' said Jim Young, chairman and CEO of Union Pacific.
