The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southwest Regional office in Madison has begun preliminary engineering design for completing a four lane WIS 26 bypass around Fort Atkinson in Jefferson County. The proposed improvements are part of the overall plan for expanding WIS 26 to a four-lane highway between Janesville and Watertown.
The approximate 6-mile project extends from the bypass interchange at Business 26 (Janesville Avenue) south of Fort Atkinson through the Banker Road area north of the city. Two driving lanes and a median will be added to the existing two-lane bypass. The completed four-lane facility will be a freeway with access only from the interchanges at Business 26 south and north of the city, WIS 106 and US 12....
