Proxim launches Wi-Fi mesh base nodes with wireless backhaul.(NEW PRODUCTS)

Proxim Wireless Inc. introduced the MeshMAX system, Wi-Fi mesh base nodes with wireless backhaul for licensed as well as unlicensed spectrum. The system combines Proxim's outdoor mesh nodes (the AP4000MR) and broadband wireless radios for backhaul. It can be used for either 802.16d fixed WiMAX for 3.5GHz band or Proxim's MP11 base stations operating over the unlicensed spectrums of 2.4GHz and 5.1-5.8GHz.

Proxim's new product consists of thin BSTs that are installed on existing cell sites or streetlights. The RF and data rates offered are the same as the existing WiMAX BSTs; however, the management is controlled by a central network management system.
