Unwired Group, Austar United Communications, and Soul team up for federal government's Connect Australia program.(BUSINESS)

Unwired Group, Austar United Communications, and Soul have teamed up to be funded under the federal government's US$1.1 billion Connect Australia program. This will help the three groups to construct another national broadband network.

The national AUSalliance network will utilize fiber-based solutions and DSL2 and will be deployed in the regional parts of Australia at low costs. Helen Coonan, communications minister, has encouraged the industry to think big and cooperate with Connect Australia. Unwired and Austar stated that their spectrum licenses will enable them to introduce low-cost high-speed wireless broadband networks and cover 95 percent of the population.
