COPPER CONTINUED THE rally begun in the fourth week of June into the first half of September on the back of continuing concern about tight supply. Even the settlement of the 25-day labour strike at Chile's Escondida mine, the world's largest copper mine, at the end of August only dented the uptrend briefly. Traders said the end of the strike which had forced Escondida to declare force majeure on deliveries of copper concentrates, after production was reduced by half, had already been accounted for prior to the announcement.
