COPPER PRICES CONTINUED to break new records in the second half July and first days of August as inventories of the metal hovered around long-term lows. The prices also have been pushed higher on recent US data that suggests that demand for copper may be stronger than expected.
On 28 July, copper prices broke through the US$3,500 a tonne level for the first time ever, with the three-month price on the LME hitting a record US$3,535 a tonne, up US$45 on the previous day's close.
