EXPECTATIONS OF AN end to the unprecedented series of interest rate rises in the US have been dashed this month, resulting in a resurgence of the US dollar, with probably at least one more rate rise to come. The new Fed chairman seems to be worried at the inflation figures that are currently running at over three per cent, much higher than the OECD average.

US interest rates are already well over two full points ahead of Europe's (and even further ahead of Japan's), and the indications are of an even wider margin by the end of the summer. So the dollar is back to the strength it ...
