Vendors in the once-thriving multiplexer and wide area network markets stand at a crossroads as they try to determine which direction to take to maintain viability. One fork in the road looks very much like the one they've already traveled--it emphasizes traditional TDM networking, but using extended or reinvented product lines.

Vendors selecting this road continue to concentrate on point-to-point networking, and don't believe that the WAN industry is about to undergo a radical change, despite the changes in data processing architectures and the explosion of traffic from LANs and remote corporate sites.
