U.S. enterprises are willing to outsource their applications, but the largest businesses aren't looking to application service providers (ASPs) to handle the job (Figure), according to a survey by market researchers Cahners In-Stat Group (www.instat.com).

Instead, companies with 100 employees will more likely turn in 2000 to established technology providers that offer not just hosted applications, but business process expertise, ongoing IT support and Internet consulting, according to Cahners In-Stat.
