IT Services Vendors Split Market.(Gartner Dataquest report)

Though large firms lead the market for IT services, no single firm dominates, according to a recent study by Gartner Dataquest. IT services was a $600 billion market in 2000, but the 10 largest vendors accounted for less than 20 percent of that total, market researchers found. Though IBM led the market, it experienced slower growth than competitors in 2000.
Michael Palma, principal analyst for Gartner Dataquest's IT services worldwide group, said 2000 "was generally a bad year in the IT services business, as the industry was impacted by year 2000 lockdowns, e-business hysteria and dot-com failures, but it could have been a lot worse."
