Ethernet will win in Metro, firm says. (Metro Optical).(Brief Article)

Metro Ethernet equipment revenue will more than double between last year and 2006, growing at an annual 23 percent rate, according to Infonetics Research. Ports will more than triple over the same period, from 756,000 in 2002 to 3.3 million in 2006, the company predicts. "Of course, there will never be a wholesale change because of the SONET/SDH installed base, but every year Ethernet will account for a larger portion of metro capex," said Michael Howard, principal analyst and cofounder of Infonetics.
