Companies will continue to invest heavily in intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) to guard against Internet worms, viruses and denial of service attacks, according to In-Stat/MDR. The market research firm projects that hardware-based network IPS appliances will be the strongest area for revenue growth.
Other findings: * 80 percent of organizations use IPS products in-line to block attacks. * 19 percent of IPS products are deployed at critical segments in the network. * The top three factors affecting purchase decisions are functionality, liability and better network performance.
