Forward 09-25-1998 Brandeis Celebrates its 50th Anniversary in Strength WALTHAM, Mass. -- America's "fastest-rising" research university is this verdant Massachusetts campus named for a Jewish Supreme Court Justice and born the same year as the state of Israel. Brandeis University, celebrating its 50th anniversary next month, was past year recognized as first among 11 "nationally rising" private universities in a book, "The Rise of American Research Universities" (Johns Hopkins University Press), by Nancy Diamond and Hugh Davis Grant.
