Forward 11-13-1998 New Ventures on Tap for Demographer NEW YORK -- One of the noted demographers of the Jewish world is breaking his ties with Brandeis University in order to set up two new think tanks at San Francisco. Gary Tobin, for the last 11 years the director of Brandeis' Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies, is now heading the Institute for Jewish & Community Research and the Abramson Program in Jewish Policy Research, the latter an affiliate of the Conservative movement's University of Judaism.
