Kosher Butcher Claims He Blew Whistle, Lost Job

Cattan, Nacha Forward 11-15-2002 A former ritual slaughterer, or shochet, says he has been effectively blackballed from his profession by two of the largest Orthodox kosher labels after he blew the whistle on alleged kosher violations at an Empire Kosher Poultry slaughterhouse. Rabbi Ephraim "Barry" Abramson settled a lawsuit out of court last month against the Orthodox Union and the Orthodox Jewish Council of Baltimore, or Star-K.

Although neither side would discuss the terms of the settlement, Abramson outlined his complaints against the two agencies in an interview with the Forward.
