Irish Land Scam Alleged in Texas

O'Driscoll, Sean Irish Voice 08-31-2004 A TEXAS-based Tyrone woman who had contacts at the very top of the Republican Party there is alleged to have swindled more than $500,000 from society friends by offering them non-existent Irish property. Speaking from her Texas prison cell, Julia Parrish, 52, originally from Castlederg, and now a leading member of the Republican Party in the affluent city of Athens, 60 miles south of Dallas, said that she was innocent and would be cleared at trial. "I never did it, I was set up and that will be shown in court," she told the Irish Voice. Parrish has met and been photographed with many leading Republicans, including former presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush Senior, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
