O'Driscoll, Sean Irish Voice 10-11-2005 THERE is a photo in Dr. Kevin Cahill's memoirs of a female body protruding from the rubble of a Nicaraguan earthquake in 1972. Her legs are trapped under tones of concrete, her body lies face down in a street strewn with rubble and broken wooden boxes.

Her hands are joined together, as if her last thought was a prayer. It is a deeply haunting image that illustrates the vivid written portraits from Cahill's 45 years as an activist, teacher and doctor.
