Cable series takes look behind Black humor

Williams, Kam Michigan Chronicle 02-19-2002 This month, continuing through March 4, Comedy Central has kicked off an interesting series about Black comedians. The "Heroes of Black Comedy" episodes feature Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg, Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, Chris Tucker, Dave Chappelle, Sinbad and Tony Rock. The entire series has been a funny and fascinating excursion into the psyche of the African American comic. Sandwiched between snippets of stand-up are revealing interviews with the comedians, most of whom have milked their own life's experiences to develop successful, observational styles of performance.
