Coleman A. Young Jr. gives invocation at CAYF ceremony

Michigan Chronicle 06-11-2002 Coleman Alexander Young, Detroit's first Black mayor and longest-serving mayor in the city's history, was a strong believer in providing educational opportunities for young people. For that reason, he formed the Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) which is now in its 20th year of giving scholarships to outstanding, college-bound students.

Its philosophy remains the same: "Investing in the leaders of tomorrow...today." The foundation's 20th anniversary celebration took place May 23 at Greater Grace Temple, with Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick delivering the keynote speech. Coleman A.
