Peek, V. Lonnie, Jr. Michigan Chronicle 11-11-2003 Back in the late 60s, as a student working on my master of arts degree at Wayne State University, I found myself in the middle of the Black student movement. As a result of a set of circumstances, I ended up organizing the Association of Black Students and served as president of the organization until I graduated. This particular period in our history was unique.
There were numerous rebellions in the urban areas along with heightened campus activism. This was the era of Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, Bobby Seal, Huey Newton and Eldridge Cleaver.
