Hayes, a corporal with the Wayne County Sheriffs Department in Detroit, recently graduated from Wayne State University with co-major degrees in Technical Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. Corporal Hayes received the highest student academic/community service recognition, the Howard A.

Donnelly Award. He was a commencement speaker as a result of his community service involvement and maintaining a 3.73 and better scholastic average throughout his studies while working full time. He was the conflict resolution mentor to six male students from the Ralph Bunche Academy in Detroit.
