Retired Detroit Police inspector dies

Michigan Chronicle 01-17-2006 Fred Williams, a retired inspector with the Detroit Police Department, died last week. Williams, 75, served in the department from June 6, 1955 until his retirement on July 2, 1991. He started out in the vice bureau, working in the 9th, 1st and 13th precincts.

In 1969, he helped form the public information section, and was its commanding officer for 16 years. He was promoted to sergeant in 1970, lieutenant in 1977 and inspector in 1987. Williams was a graduate of Wayne State University (Monteith College), where he earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy.
