Descriptions of the Holy Land as "smelly, noisy ... capable of squeezing a tacky tourist buck" from visitors were removed. The revised entry for "Israel & the Palestinian territories" on the Lonely Planet Web site, which calls Israel "a bustling, noisy, modern country," appeared after Assemblyman Dov Hikind encouraged letters of protest be sent to AOL.
