Sentencing in Baylor student's murder.(Carlton Dotson, Baylor University )(Brief Article)

Campus Crime, June, 2005

Sentencing in Baylor Student's Murder--Former Baylor University (Texas) basketball player Carlton Dotson, 23, pleaded guilty this month to killing former teammate Patrick Dennehy, 21, two years ago. The judge in the case sentenced Dotson to 35 years in jail, saying the sentence balanced justice with compassion and weighed in Dotson's "serious mental issues." Dotson had previously been found incompetent to stand trial by three mental health experts, and at one point during his confession told authorities he was the son of God and had many special gifts.

Authorities earlier said Dotson killed Dennehy because he believed his teammate was trying to kill him. Dotson's attorneys had said earlier he was suffering from delusions.
