The administration at the University of Virginia is encouraging tolerance, diversity and civil discussion while police are investigating and seeking tips, in the wake of several racial incidents that have occurred since the academic year began.
According to university officials, several students were the targets of racial slurs yelled at them from passersby in cars as they walked along campus, while others found notes with the "N-word" posted on the doors of their campus housing.
"These troubling incidents--which thus far have been confirmed by investigations--share common characteristics: all have been vicious, deliberate, and secretive efforts to insult and abuse members of this community for the color of their skin," said John Casteen, president...
