Time Warner Cable has confirmed that the MSO is testing a premium Road Runner cable modem service tier in multiple cities.

The MSO is presently trialing the beefier tier (6 Mbps downstream/512 kbps upstream) in four markets: Rochester, N.Y.; Columbus, Ohio; San Antonio, Texas and Cincinnati. Time Warner's traditional flagship cable modem service tier caps speeds at 3 Mbps down/384 kbps up.

Time Warner Cable has not yet determined how Long it will conduct the trial or whether it might extend the faster tier to additional markets. "We are currently evaluating results," said MSO spokesman Keith Cocozza.
