Comcast: you have video mail.(Upfront: latest news and insight)(Comcast Cable Communications)(video mail service testing)(Brief Article)

CED, July, 2004

Comcast Cable has been quietly beta testing a video mail service that uses high-speed connections and traditional Web cams.

Under the beta program, Comcast's Basic Video Mail is free to all of the MSO's high-speed data customers. Basic offers 15-second video mail messages, up to three greeting cards per month and stores video mail for 15 days. A premium-level service costs $4.95 per month but offers 60-second video mail messages, as many as 40 electronic greeting cards and caches video mail information for up to 45 days.

Comcast plans to launch a commercial version of video mail sometime this summer. Comcast also expanded its broadband offers this summer with a new premium "games-on-demand" service for $14.95 per month.
