EPA announces training opportunities

Circuits Assembly, May, 2002

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, Washington, D.C.) has released its Spring 2002 Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)/Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) workshop schedule.

Under the TRI program, facilities that manufacture, process or use 100 pounds of lead, as well as lead compounds, must submit annual Form R reports by July 1, 2002, for lead use during 2001. Each training and compliance workshop provides these facilities a session focused on the new lead and lead compounds rule, in addition to assistance in understanding and complying with overall EPCRA section 313 regulations.

EPCRA Section 313 eliminated the de minimis exemption for lead and lead compounds and consequently expanded reporting responsibilities for facilities that already report under TRI. With the removal of the de minimis exemption, facilities that were previously not required to account for lead when its present concentration was below one percent, now must account for many more sources of lead compounds.
