Richard J. Carwardine, Oxford University, was awarded the Lincoln Prize for his analytical biography Lincoln (Pearson Education Ltd.). Carwardine, the first British scholar to win the award, will receive $30,000 and a bronze replica of Augustus Saint-Gaudens's life-size bust Lincoln the Man.
The Lincoln Prize is the most generous award in American history given in the United States. It was endowed by Richard Gilder and Lewis E. Lehrman in 1990 and is administered by Gettysburg College.
