It's a mid-range excavator, sort of. It's a large excavator, sort of. In fact, hydraulic excavators in the 30- to 40-ton range can be classified both ways, which can make them the perfect choice for a wide variety of work. There's the benefits of a mid-range machine combined with the power and productivity of a large excavator.

Since 1998 when Construction Equipment last covered this class of excavator, the number of models has grown from 19 to 32, giving users a greater choice of machines from which to choose. And this also means that there is a greater number of smart features being offered that will add to the productivity and efficiency of the excavator. More of the operations are being handled by the excavator and fewer by the operator.
